Candidate forum set for Oct. 10

The League of Women Voters of Southwest Santa Clara Valley and the Los Gatos Weekly-Times are joining together to sponsor a forum for the Los Gatos Town Council candidates on Oct. 10. A member of the league will act as moderator for the event and take audience questions for Diane McNutt, Mike Wasserman, Paul Dubois, Barry Bakken and incumbent Joe Pirzynski. The five candidates are vying for the three open council seats. The forum starts at 7:30 p.m. next Thursday in the Los Gatos Town Council chambers on 110 E. Main St., below the town hall.

Students, parents to walk to school

The town is encouraging students to walk, bike or ride their scooters to school on Wednesday, Oct. 2, as part of International Walk to School Day. Schools participating are Blossom Hill, Daves Avenue and Van Meter elementary schools and Fisher and Union middle schools.

At each of those schools, council members from Los Gatos and Monte Sereno will hand out stickers to participating students. Los GatosMonte Sereno police and California Highway Patrol officers will step up enforcement in the vicinity of those schools in "Operation Safe Passage."
