| It's thanks to its many volunteers that Montalvo has become such a success. Accordingly, the organization said thanks on Oct. 22, at a Hawaiian-themed party at the Villa. Guests came attired in Hawaiian shirts, and many wore leis around their necks. Food included ribs and fresh fruit and a marshmallow roast. |

| The flames in the fireplace at the Willow Glen headquarters of Live Oak Adult Day Services weren't for warmth—although longtime supporters who gathered Oct. 21 were certainly warmed by the symbolism. The purpose was to symbolically burn the mortgage on the building acquired by the nonprofit agency just five years ago. It wasn't a protest; it was just a group of happy volunteers congratulating themselves for paying off the mortgage. |
