High school district honors two student reps, longtime employees
By Lisa Toth
It's always nice to get a pat on the back for a job well done, but this time instead of pats they got plaques.

Service awards were presented by Los GatosSaratoga Joint Union High School District board members at a May 18 meeting to honor longtime employees and two student representatives.

Saratoga High School senior Marissa Byrne and Los Gatos High School junior Dinah Chandy were the two students who served on the school board this academic year, reporting happenings at their respective schools.

"It's really wonderful to have the student voice," said board member Lorrie Wernick to the students. "Even when the meetings get long, you sit there and you listen."

Additional award recipients, who are also certificated employees, included Los Gatos work experience teacher and former baseball coach Joe Winstead, 45 years of service; Los Gatos librarian Linda Roshon-Harville, 35 years of service; Saratoga High social studies teacher and department chairman Charles "Chuck" Newport, 35 years of service; Los Gatos special education teacher and former baseball coach Wayne Senini, 35 years of service; Los Gatos computer science teacher and department chairman and golf coach Michael Costanzo, 30 years of service; and Los Gatos visual arts teacher Lani Dillon, 30 years of service.

Classified employee Adam Jordan also received an award for 25 years of service to Saratoga High, where he works as a custodian after school hours.
