Sixteen area high school seniors were honored for their completion of the six-year program of philanthropic events, cultural and leadership experiences through the National Charity League, a nonprofit organization of mothers and daughters dedicated to fostering community involvement.
The National Charity League invites interested mothers with sixth-grade daughters to join and partake in philanthropic events, life skills development, social and cultural development, and time and organizational management. Over the past six years, the girls have attended numerous plays and concerts and have planned and orchestrated a tea for 200 guests, along with several dinners and luncheons. Speakers have addressed the girls on subjects such as health, attitudes, appearance and college planning.
In addition, the girls and their mothers have served meals for homeless individuals and families at the Emergency Housing Consortium, bagged groceries and sorted clothing and toys for those less fortunate through Sacred Heart Community Services. And they have stuffed stockings for teenagers around the holidays and played bingo and made prizes for residents at Our Lady of Fatima in Saratoga. A favorite activity for the girls was coaching and assisting disabled athletes in the Special Olympics.
