The Under 21 Club continues to offer late-night alternatives this summer for teenagers that don't involve drinking or drugs.
The organization's third event will be Aug. 20 from 7 to10 p.m. at the Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Co., 101 W. Main St. The Under 21 Club, which is organized by local high school students, developed as an extension of the "Alive ... and Loving Life" movement. The ALL program arose after the death of 18-year-old Los Gatos High School senior Eric Quesada, who was killed in a drunken-driving accident in November 2002. Other events organized by the Under 21 Club have included a nightclub for teens and an evening of live music at the same coffee establishment.
Julia High and Jacqui Kemp, two local students, are spearheading the upcoming coffee event, which will feature live Los Gatos bands and open-mic sessions between sets. For a $5 admission and with a valid high school identification, students from any high school can enjoy food, drinks and a fun atmosphere, all in a safe environment.
