What a deal! Watch some quality baseball just for helping people.
That will be the case when the San Jose Giants host Sunday Friends Night on Saturday, Aug. 21, a fundraiser to benefit the homeless, at San Jose Municipal Stadium.
Sunday Friends is an organization that brings homeless and low income families together with volunteers to grow positive life-skills. Activities include cooking, gardening, serving meals, and even making cards for nursing home residents.
In its mission statement the Sunday Friends says it "provides a supportive environment for homeless and very-low-income families to learn and practice social and economic life skills. Children and parents work together with volunteers to improve self-confidence, pride, work ethic, and family unity."
Now the Sunday Friends have found a helping hand in the San Jose Giants and will be accepting donations and volunteers to help their cause. Also, there will be a raffle with prizes from many different sources. Donors of raffle prizes include: Gloria Estefan, the San Francisco Giants, the Oakland A's, Paramount's Great America and comedy club Rooster T. Feathers.
On the baseball field, the Giants — the Class A minor team of the San Francisco Giants — will battle the Visalia Oaks for first place in the California League. Those who arrive early can get free autographs. Directions to the stadium and ticket information can be obtained at www.sjgiants.com.
The Giants and Visalia begin their four-game series on Thursday, Aug. 19.
