Los Gatos boys, girls teams are division leaders in soccer races
By Dick Sparrer
Katie Bonadies had another good week--and because of it, so did the Los Gatos High School girls soccer team.

Bonadies knocked in a couple of goals and dished off a couple of assists, and the Wildcats picked up a couple of wins in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League as a result.

Los Gatos, 3-0-2 in the division and 10-2-3 for the year, opened the year with a tight 2-1 win over Gunn, then backed that up with a close 3-2 victory over Los Altos.

The Wildcats were actually trailing Gunn 1-0 at the half in the first game of the week. But Bonadies tied it in the second half with an unassisted goal, then Morgan Branon scored off a Bonadies assist to give the Cats a 2-1 victory over the Titans.

It was a different story against the Eagles two days later. Bonadies scored off a Sofie Lynn assist, then delivered a pass to set up Daniela Posada for a goal to give the Cats a 2-1 lead over the Eagles before intermission.

Los Gatos gave up an "own goal" in the second half, but Corynn Carino matched that with a goal for the Wildcats to push them to the crucial 3-2 win.

The Wildcats will be out to maintain their winning ways when they return to the field for two games this week. The Cats will host Homestead on Jan. 19 before hitting the road for Mountain View on Jan. 21. Both games begin at 3:30 p.m.

Los Gatos will also be on the field Jan. 24 when the Wildcats entertain Saratoga at 3:30 p.m. in a make-up for a game washed away by rain earlier in the month.

Like the girls, the Los Gatos boys soccer team is also fighting for a championship this winter, but in the El Camino Division of the SCVAL. The Cats beat Wilcox 2-0 and tied Los Altos 1-1 last week to improve to 4-1-1 in the division and to 5-5-2 for the year. Los Gatos, Los Altos and Cupertino all share first place in the El Camino race.

David Sawyer knocked in a goal off of a Jeremy Cleveland assist, and Kevin Bakken drilled home a penalty kick to lift the Cats to the 2-0 win over the Chargers.
