International Gift Faire offers world

The annual International Gift Faire featuring fair-trade crafts from around the world takes place Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lincoln Glen Church, 2700 Booksin Ave.

Among the items for sale are baskets, carvings, holiday ornaments, jewelry, stationery, toys, musical instruments and folk art.

The fair is part of the nonprofit, alternative trading organization called Ten Thousand Villages. The 58-year-old organization works with more than 60,000 craftspeople in more than 30 countries, marketing their handcrafts at fairs and through affiliated stores in the United States.

Although the fair is located in Willow Glen, it attracts a large contingent of Rose Garden area residents, including longtime volunteers Ilene Hillman and Mary Chapman.

Outreach meeting
on Lincoln Dog Park

A community outreach meeting to discuss the proposed dog park at Lincoln High School will take place at 7 p.m. Oct. 27.

San Jose City Councilman Ken Yeager, Lincoln High School Principal Chris Funk, and representatives from San Jose Parks and Recreation and animal control will attend. The meeting is expected to be an opportunity to learn more about the proposal and to gather community input.

Proponents and opponents are planning to attend. Those favoring the dog park are encouraging those attending to bring children and grandchildren to the meeting.

The meeting will take place in Lincoln's media center, on campus at 555 Dana Ave.

Rose Garden Assoc.
set to hold elections

The Rose Garden Neighborhood Preservation Association will hold its board of directors election at a meeting Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. at Hoover Community Center, 1635 Park Ave. at Naglee.

opening in Burbank

The Burbank Sanitation District has an opening on its board and is seeking applicants who live within its district, which is the unincorporated area of Burbank.
