Arrest Scene: The scene at the corner of The Alameda and Race Street last Thursday resembled an episode from Cops. Businesses operated as usual that morning until a staff member at the Silicon Valley Community Newspapers office alerted coworkers that a SWAT team had descended upon the Flamingo Motel across the street. On July 21, more than a dozen officers from the San Jose police MERGE unit surrounded the motel, where they arrested armed robbery suspect Nicolas Swanson, 19. A sniper dressed in camouflage readied his rifle in the parking lot behind newspaper's building, as other officers readied their rifles in front of the suspect's room.
