    Community should seek housing fixes

As longtime taxpayers in the city of Saratoga, we are concerned about the lack of affordable housing for teachers and others who contribute to our community. We would like to propose the following:

    * Increase the number of secondary units on existing properties. Relax standards as to when and how secondary units can be constructed.

    * All new multiunit developments must provide a percentage of affordable housing units.

    * Explore the possibility of tax incentives for those who are providing sub-market rentals.

    * Use community development block grant money available to subsidize rental costs and mortgage payments for teachers.

In conclusion, we feel that by providing housing for teachers and others who contribute to our community, we will maintain our high quality educational system and sustain property values.
