Bone density test at Longs
The Foundation for Osteoporosis Research and Education, a nonprofit organization, will be conducting bone density testing at Longs Drugs store at 12940 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road in Saratoga on Jan. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. The test, which is a safe, painless, noninvasive scan of the forearm and takes seven minutes, costs $30 and all proceeds go to support the bone density testing program.
No appointment is necessary, and technicians do the testing on a first-come-first-serve basis. Call FORE at 510.832.2663.
Friends of WHH choose officers
The Friends of the Warner Hutton House, the nonprofit group which, in conjunction with the Saratoga Youth Commission, raises money to keep the Warner Hutton House open, has chosen officers for this year. The Warner Hutton House is the after-school center for middle school age teens in the city. Barbara Farnum is the new chair of the six-member organization and Theresa Blair is the new treasurer.
The Friends are currently recruiting new members and encourage people who have children in middle or high school, or who have an interest in teens to call the city's recreation department at 408.868.1234.
Applications for Senate Fellows Program available
Applications for the 2001-2002 California Senate Fellows Program are now available in Senator John Vasconcellos' office at 100 Paseo de San Antonio, #209, in San Jose, or by calling 916.322.7563.
The program gives college graduates an opportunity to become full-time, paid Senate staff members, working in a senator's capitol office or committee for 11 months. Fellows also take part in academic seminars with senators, senior staff members, journalists, lobbyists, and state government officials. They receive 12 graduate credits from California State University, Sacramento.
The California Senate and the Center for California Studies at CSU Sacramento operate the program jointly. Those graduating from college by September 2001, may apply. Deadline is Feb. 28.
