Saratoga wins battle of Cats and 'Dogs

Bulldogs are said to be tenacious, courageous animals.

So it seems rather appropriate that a group of Saratoga girls chose the name as the mascot for their soccer team. Because they certainly displayed those qualities in the 1999 season.

The Saratoga Bulldogs, a girls under-14 soccer team in the Saratoga AYSO program, capped a super '99 season with a championship in the regional tournament.

The Bulldogs played six games in two days to win the title, clinching the crown by battling the Monterey Fat Cats to a 1-1 draw in the final game of the tourney.

The Bulldogs won the tournament crown, with Monterey ended up second and the Saratoga Rockets finishing an impressive third.

Members of the championship Saratoga Bulldogs team, coached by Ruben Maynes and Dan Casas, include Breezy Conner, Marissa Byrne, Diana See, Rachel Maltiel, Katie Mockler, Maggie Johnson, Johanna Publicover, Elisa Sabes, Danielle Maynes, Bryte Nielson, Valerie Maynes, Margaret Tseng, Lisa Evans and Meggan Casas.
