Trail Center seeks outdoor volunteers

The nonprofit Trail Center seeks outdoor enthusiasts to help repair hiking trails in Santa Clara County parks on Jan. 10. No experience is required. Volunteers should bring lunch and a drink and wear long sleeves, pants and boots. Trail Center members provide tools, training and supervision.

Volunteer crews will gather at 9 a.m. and work until 3 p.m.

Reservations are required. Call 650/968-7065 for more information. Children age 10 or older are welcome to join their families.

Program features wellness speakers

The Christian Women's Club of Los Gatos and Saratoga sponsors a wellness and personal effectiveness program open to everyone on Jan. 9 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Village House and Garden Restaurant, located at 320 Village Lane, Los Gatos.

Speaker Dianne Mentzel, who calls herself a "romantic idealist," will talk about finding new definition in life after giving birth to a brain-damaged child. Speaker David Wolf Smith, a personal trainer and fitness expert, will talk about improving health and fitness, with a focus on nutrition.

Music by a local artist follows. Cost for the program, which includes tax and tip, is $10.50. Free child care is available. Call 253-3118 or 292-2622 for more information.

Cirque San Jose holds auditions

Cirque San Jose invites people of all ages to audition for its spring season. Individuals should have experience in one or more of the following areas: gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, acrobatics, dance, trampoline or baton-twirling, or circus skills such as juggling, highwire balancing or trapeze.

Preliminary auditions take place Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 634 N. Eighth St., San Jose. Callbacks are Jan. 11. For information, call 295-2276.

Special Olympics seeks coaches

The Santa Clara County chapter of the Northern California Special Olympics seeks volunteer coaches.

A volunteer orientation takes place Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Special Olympics office, located at 5730 Chambertin Dr., San Jose. For more information, call 267-2734.
