Armed robbery on Highway 9
Jeffrey Allen, 27, was robbed at gunpoint by two male juveniles Dec. 26 while he was walking toward Saratoga on Highway 9. His jacket, wallet and $200 in cash were taken, according to sheriff's reports.
Allen had been drinking at a Los Gatos bar and was walking home when a white Toyota drove by and turned around. Soon after, two young men dressed in hooded sweatshirts came up behind Allen and asked, "What are you doing on our turf?"
Allen was ordered to the ground by the suspects, who brandished a semiautomatic handgun according to the sheriff's report. After taking his wallet and jacket, the suspects drove off. Allen walked and ran the rest of the way home and called 911.
A sheriff's deputy searched the area but did not see the suspects.
Sgt. Earl Pennington, who has been assigned the case, says chances don't look promising that the suspects will be caught.
"[The victim] has very vague descriptions of these people, and there's no evidence," said Pennington. "We put out an APB, and it will be entered in the watch bulletin. But the victim lives in Massachusetts. If we do get a suspect, we have to show him to the victim, and it all depends if the victim's available or not. We'll do everything we can to identify the kids who did this, but chances don't look good."
Learn to surf the Internet
The Saratoga Community Library aims to make patrons computer-literate through two free training sessions in January and February.
Residents can learn to surf the Net in hands-on nine-minute sessions led by library docents. Designed for first-time Internet users, each session covers searching for information on the World Wide Web. Sessions are Tuesday and Thursday mornings and Wednesday evenings by appointment.
Residents can also learn how to use the library's on-line computer catalog. One-hour sessions are led by librarians for groups of five people. Sessions are Friday and Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. by appointment.
