Attack on parks and recreation unfounded

I am responding to Dennis Farmer's letter in the Saratoga News. The parks and recreation commission met on Dec. 10 at a special meeting to discuss the use fee for Congress Springs Park. This is the first step in examining all use fees for the city of Saratoga.

Our job was not to implement use fees, as these fees have always been charged to the user groups. We were to re-examine the amounts charged and make recommendations.

Mr. Farmer's comments of our process, stating it was "a forgone conclusion," and "it was abundantly apparent that the decision had been unanimously decided prior to this meeting," were totally erroneous.

The parks and recreation commission complied with the requirements of the Brown Act and did not deliberate--much less decide--the issue of the amount of user fees prior to the meeting Dec. 10.

    Chairwoman, Saratoga Parks and
    Recreation Commission
