Council honors WHH Friends and founder

The Saratoga City Council commended Ron Adolphson, who retired from his position as treasurer for the Friends of the Warner Hutton House, at its meeting on Jan. 3. Adolphson is one of the original founders of the nonprofit group, which raises funds for teen programs in Saratoga. He had served as treasurer since 1996.

Adolphson was integral in the establishment of the Friends' nonprofit status and as treasurer, he completed the IRS annual filings, tracked all donations and expenditures and issued monthly financial reports to the city.

Laser Eye Center hosts next mixer

The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors Committee will hold its next business mixer on Jan. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley. The mixer is also a way for Chamber businesses to welcome the Laser Eye Center, which sponsored the laser light show at the Celebrate Saratoga! street dance this past September, to the Chamber. The center is at 606 Saratoga Ave., Suite 10.

Dr. Gary Kawesh of the center, who is the laser vision correction specialist for the Oakland Raiders and who has performed over 18,000 refractive surgeries, will answer questions about laser vision correction and his experience.

    School Zone Crackdown

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office will join all of the other law enforcement agencies within Santa Clara County to participate in the first ever "Countywide School Zone Crackdown" from Jan. 8 to Jan. 12.

The purpose of the crackdown is to alert commuters, parents driving their children to school, and students walking to school that the laws around school zones will be strictly enforced.

A member of the San Jose California Highway Patrol will join local law enforcement officers each day of the crackdown to help aid in enforcement. From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. officers will work different school zones in Saratoga, Cupertino and Los Altos Hills, making traffic stops for the purpose of education and enforcement.
