Aegis Gallery's artists going out of their element
Now through Jan. 24, the member artists of Aegis Gallery present "Out of our Element," a group show in which the artists exhibit works and mediums with which they are experimenting, including some unusual subject matter. Among the mediums are digital imagery, glass and many types of paintings.

Hakone Gardens to celebrate the Year of the Snake
Hakone Gardens, at 21000 Big Basin Way in Saratoga, invites all interested members of the community to attend a ritual and celebration in honor of the beginning of the Year of the Snake.
The event takes place Jan. 28, from 5 to 10 p.m. in the Cultural Exchange Center. A traditional Japanese mochi pounding ceremony will take place, and the pounded rice cakes bring good luck in the new year to those who eat them; following is an American-style potluck dinner. Rec. Department plans a day trip to see 'Tallulah'
The Saratoga Recreation Department is taking reservations now for a day-long trip to San Francisco on Feb. 28 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The bus' first stop is Union Square for a no-host lunch and shopping. Next is a walk to the Curran Theater to watch Tallulah on its pre-Broadway tour. The play is a dramatic portrait of Southern stage and screen star Tallulah Bankhead, starring Kathleen Turner.
