First issue of new city newsletter is due in February
City Council members in October directed City Manager Larry Perlin to start collecting bids for producing the first issue of a Saratoga City Hall newsletter for April. Perlin now says the first edition should be ready by February because Beverly Tucker, program coordinator in the city's Recreation Department, offered to write and edit the newsletter. Tucker has a journalism background and experience in producing newsletters, Perlin said.
A newsletter was suggested at the council's retreat in June as a way to improve communication between City Hall and the public. In October, Perlin estimated that the total cost of publishing and mailing a newsletter to all homes in Saratoga would be $4,800 to $7,200 per issue. He says now that the cost will probably be toward the low end of that scale. The initial issue will be four pages.
Library bond is Measure N
The library bond measure is Measure N as in "new," according to Friends of the Saratoga Libraries Vice President Ruth Gipstein. And along with a new name, the bond measure has some new digs.
The committee formed to campaign for the bond is now headquartered in the Azule Crossing Shopping Center, next to the Front Window store. The owners of Azule Crossing donated the rooms to the committee free of charge through the March election. The committee held its kick-off party there Jan 8. The committee's website is www.geocities.com/~towse/SCL-bond.
Commissioners commended by council upon exit
Exiting city commissioners were commended for their years of service by the City Council at the Jan. 5 council meeting. They were: Library Commissioner Ed Sessler, Finance Commissioner Jim Ousley, and Parks and Recreation Commissioners Frank Friedrich, Kay Whitney and Marianne Swan.
