Saratoga NewsClash claims CupThe De Anza Clash, a girls under-13 Class I select soccer team, rolled to four straight shutout victories to win the District Cup II championship in Morgan Hill. The Clash battled the Santa Cruz Mirage to a scoreless tie in the championship game, winning the title on a shootout. The De Anza squad, made up mostly of players from Cupertino and Saratoga, opened the year by winning titles in tournament in Tracy and Los Gatos. Members of the team include (front row, l-r) Angela Nunez, Kristin Krale, Shaida Johnson and Christina Gilbert; (middle row, l-r) Nicole Brasch, Monique Nunez, Taylor Newman, Crystalin An, Megan Gray, Christina Arnold and Evan Smith; and (back row, l-r) coach Bill Newman, Helen Leon, Elena Bautista, Laura Gutto, Michelle Mighdoll, Monica Anzoategui, Tenley Mochizuki, Christina Siadat and coach Mehdi Siadat. The Clash will now play in the State Cup in Morgan Hill Jan. 23-24.
