Saratoga NewsNews BriefsSUSD will form a bond committee The Saratoga Union School District is seeking three residents to be representatives on the district's bond oversight committee. Responsibilities will include reviewing the sale of bonds and the tax rate, auditing expenditures for facilities and preparing a yearly report for the community. The committee will determine how often and when the members will meet. Interested residents must send a letter outlining their qualifications and reasons for wanting to serve to Superintendent Mary Gardner at the Saratoga Union School District, at 20460 Forrest Hills Dr., Saratoga, 95070. Letters are due by Jan. 30. Chamber mixer at real estate office Kim Pearson of Century 21/Contempo Realty, located at 20473 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road in Saratoga, will host the year's first Saratoga Chamber of Commerce After Business Hours Mixer on Thursday, Jan. 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mixer coordinators include Paul Zic of the Saratoga Chiropractic Office and Marlene Duffin of the Lions Club of Saratoga, who encourages attendees to bring in old eyeglasses for the Lions Club. Chamber members are also encouraged to bring fliers, brochures and business cards to the mixer. Chamber mixers are held monthly and are an opportunity for local merchants to get to know each other and develop business ties within the community. Date set for local artists screening Artists get ready: Screening for artworks for the 1998 Saratoga Rotary Art Show will take place at West Valley Community College on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Paintings, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, photography and fiber arts and crafts will be judged at that time. The Rotary has celebrated 40 years of art shows, billed as the largest one-day art show west of the Mississippi. This year's Rotary Art Show is scheduled for Sunday, May 3. Proceeds from the show are returned to the community upon requests to the Rotary Trust Fund.
