Villa Montalvo hosts Evening with Lifelines

The Literary Arts Committee of Villa Montalvo, in collaboration with the South Bay Area Women's Caucus for the Arts, presents "An Evening With Lifelines" on Jan. 22 at Villa Montalvo.

This is a free, hands-on presentation of the Lifelines interdisciplinary arts workshop, which helps people in crises caused by life-threatening diseases. Facilitator team members representing various artistic disciplines, including literature, theater and visual arts, will be on hand.

The program also consists of an informative discussion of the Lifelines workshops at the Cancer Support and Education Center in Menlo Park. An accompanying art exhibit, Scared, Scarred, Sacred, is on display through Jan. 31 at Works/San Jose Gallery, located at 30 N. 3rd St., San Jose. For more information, call 961-5812.

Public input sought for Castle Rock general plan

Rock-climbers, equestrians, hikers, nature photographers and those interested in state parks are invited to attend a planning workshop on Jan. 16 to give input on a general plan being prepared for nearby Castle Rock State Park.

The meeting takes place from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Saratoga Community Library, which is located at 13650 Saratoga Ave.

Rabbi speaks on Talmud

Rabbi Judith Abrams, a resident of Texas and a five-time published author, stops in the area Jan. 23-25 on her mission to share the beauty and relevance of the Talmud, an ancient book of Jewish civil and religious writings. As the scholar-in-residence at Los Gatos' Congregation Shir Hadash, Abrams speaks during Friday night services on "Why Should a Liberal Jew Care About Talmud?" At 10 a.m. on Jan. 25, she speaks on "Jewish Parenting."

On Jan. 24, Abrams participates in two services at Saratoga's Congregation Beth David--a morning service in English and an afternoon service in Russian. For more information, call Congregation Shir Hadash at 358-1751 or Congregation Beth David at 257-3333.
