Chamber to hold installation meal
The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce will hold an installation banquet to swear in new and returning board members for the year 2001. At the dinner, the Chamber will also honor the Business Person of the Year. This year, the award has gone to not one, but two Saratoga business people, Jean and Carl Orr. The event will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Toll House Hotel in Los Gatos on Jan. 20. Call 408.867.0753 to RSVP.
Wilson, former captain at sheriff substation, retires
Undersheriff Robert E. Wilson, after 32 years of service in the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, retired in December. Wilson was the captain at the sheriff's office Westside Substation in Saratoga, before he was promoted to county undersheriff, the second in command at the sheriff's office, in 1999. Capt. Jeff Miles replaced Wilson at the Substation.
Sheriff Laurie Smith appointed Commander Steven T. Cushing, a 30-year sheriff's office veteran, as undersheriff.
SFD to hold public hearing on level of service study
On Jan. 23, at 7 p.m., the Saratoga Fire District Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the level of service study that a private consulting firm finished at the end of last year. The study, by DMG Maximus, is an evaluation of the district's fire and medical services. It is available to the public.
The meeting is tentatively scheduled to be held either at Saratoga City Hall or at the fire station at the corner of Big Basin Way and Saratoga-Los Gatos Road. Call the SFD at 408.867.9001 for more information.
