    Council to hear home appeal

The City Council on Feb. 2 will hear an appeal of design-review approval of the Liu property in the hillsides on Masson Court. Neighbors of the applicant appealed the Planning Commission's decision.

After nearly two years of planning his 6,500-square-foot house, property owner Bill Liu came to planning commissioners with his proposal in December. Described as contemporary, the house has a copper roof, a dark wood exterior and limestone and metal details.

Planning commissioners originally heard the application Oct. 13 and directed the applicant to make changes, which he did.

The neighbors who have opposed the home said they had concerns about the structure's height, compatibility with the neighborhood, the copper roof and how close to the street the home would be. However, Liu's proposal is comparable in size and mass to neighboring residences.

The meeting, open to the public, will be held Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Saratoga Community Library.
