Argonaut School expansion





    On Campus

    SUSD schools host prospective students

    Registration with the Saratoga Union School District for the 2000-2001 school year for new kindergarten through eighth-grade students begins April 3 at the district office. Parents may attend Argonaut, Foothill and Saratoga elementary schools' visitation days before deciding where to enroll their children.

    Argonaut School visitation days are Feb. 22 and March 30 at 8:45 a.m. by reservation only. No appointments are necessary for Argonaut School drop-in day April 6 from 8:45 a.m. to 10:16 a.m. Foothill school visitation days are Jan. 20 and Feb. 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and no appointment is necessary.

    Saratoga School program observation day is Jan. 19 from 8:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. by appointment only, and kindergarten observation day is Feb. 23 at 8:45 a.m. Parents are invited to call schools for specific details about the visitation days.

    Saratoga residents on the UCSB dean's list

    Several Saratoga residents attending UC-Santa Barbara were named to the dean's honors list for their academic achievements during the fall quarter.

    To qualify, students in the college of letters and science must attain a GPA of at least 3.75, and students in college of engineering must attain a GPA of at least 3.50. Selected students are Jason Augustine, Sarah Barnes, Karen Grus, Scott Swanberg and Eric Warmenhoven.

    SHS speech and debate brings home first place

    The Saratoga High School speech and debate team in December brought home five first-place awards out of 10 events from the University of Santa Clara invitational tournament.

    First-place awards went to team president Jessica So for oratorical interpretation, Christine Miller for expository speaking, Jerone Hsu for original prose, Kristin Molzon for thematic reading and Blake Howe for dramatic interpretation. The team will compete at the Berkeley invitational in February.

    West Valley College holds a tobacco conference

    Athletic trainers from 30 colleges throughout California on Jan. 13 came together at West Valley College for a three-hour video conference on spit tobacco intervention.

    The conference kicked-off a two year study by the UC-San Francisco school of dentistry and the California Athletic Trainer's Association aimed at helping some college baseball players quit their habit of chewing tobacco. Speakers included former Major League Baseball player Joe Garagiola.
