    Hot Stove Banquet

    The Santa Clara Valley baseball community will gather for the 16th annual Hot Stove Banquet on Feb. 1, 6 p.m., at the San Jose Elks Club, 444 W. Alma Ave.

    Gary Radnich will serve as the master of ceremonies at the event that will honor outstanding area baseball players, including Mike Macfarlane of the Oakland A's and Rick Helling of the Texas Rangers.

    Tickets for the night's event are priced at $35 ($300 for a reserved table for 10), and festivities will begin with no-host cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. The awards presentation begins at 8 p.m.

    Proceeds from the banquet benefit youth baseball programs. For information or reservations call 408.446.3443.

    Falcons win two

    The Saratoga boys soccer team rolled to a pair of wins last week in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League. The Falcons turned back Wilcox 3-1 and edged Santa Clara 1-0 to improve to 3-1-2 in division play and to 5-5-3 for the year.

    Sports Grants

    The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame announces that applications are available for the organization's 2000 Youth Fund grants. Nonprofit youth organizations and schools are eligible to apply for the grants which provide needed sports equipment.

    The deadline for returning completed grant applications is Jan. 31. For information, call 415.352.8827. Grants will be distributed in the summer of 2000.

    Gym open to 40+

    The small gym at Saratoga High School will be open for basketball for players age 40 and over every Tuesday, 7-9 p.m. The drop-in fee is $3 per night, and new players must show proof of age. For more information, call 408.868.1248.

    Diving Training

    The Santa Clara Divers offer year-round training and competition for ages 8 and up interested in springboard and platform diving. For information, e-mail coachbill@scdivers.com, check the website at www.scdivers.com or call 408.274-9542.
