    Saso Herb Gardens seeks apprentices

    Saso Herb Gardens, 14625 Fruitvale Ave. in Saratoga, invites anyone interested in learning about herbs and gardening to join an apprentice program. The work exchange program runs eight consecutive Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    Owners Louis and Virginia Saso also seek someone to apprentice on a one-to-one basis on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This program requires heavier work. For more information, call 408.867.0307.

    Blue Rock Shoot concert Jan. 27

    Musician and independent recording artist Jayme Kelly Curtis of Boulder Creek and Bay Area guitarist Bruce Argyle appear in concert Jan. 27 at 8 p.m. at Blue Rock Shoot, 14523 Big Basin Way, Saratoga.

    A $5 donation is suggested.

    Rec. Dept. plans Chinatown trip

    The Saratoga Recreation Department is taking reservations for a March 4 trip to San Francisco's Chinatown. The first stop is the Chinese Culture Center, followed by a guided walking tour through the town that culminates in a Chinese lunch.

    Afterwards, participants will attend Cupid's Twist of Fate--a bilingual musical combining drama, humor, costumes, Kung Fu and monkeys--at the Buddha's Universal Church. For fees and reservations, call 408.868.1248.

    West Valley holds auditions for two plays

    West Valley College, 14000 Fruitvale Ave. in Saratoga, holds auditions for its Mainstage Theatre Production of Sophocles' classic tragedy Antigone on Jan. 24 and 25 at 7 p.m. in the campus theater. Roles are available for five men, six women and a chorus. The play runs April 28 through May 6.

    Over the same days, auditions take place for the Studio Theatre Production of Dearly Departed, a "drop-dead" comedy by David Bottrell and Jessie Jones. Roles are available for six men, seven women and a chorus. The play runs March 17 through 26.

    Call-backs are Wed., Jan. 26 and Thu., Jan. 27. Anyone interested in technical stage work can register on either audition day. Call 408.741.2058.
