Hot Stove Banquet

Longtime Bay Area baseball broadcaster Lon Simmons will be the guest of honor when the 15th annual Hot Stove Banquet returns to the Santa Clara Valley on Feb. 1 at Lou's Village on San Carlos Street in San Jose.

Tickets for the night's event are available, and festivities will begin with no-host cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. The awards presentation begins at 8 p.m. Proceeds from the banquet benefit youth baseball programs in the area. For more information or reservations, call 369-8038.

All-Comers Meets

Los Gatos will host a series of all-comers track and field meets on Saturdays, 12:30 p.m., through Feb. 27. Athletes will compete in open, masters, men, women's, boys and girls divisions. The cost is $3 for athletes and $2 for spectators. Proceeds go toward track resurfacing at the high school. For more information, call Willie Harmatz at 354-7365.

Adult Volleyball

Signups for teams and individuals interested in playing in the San Jose men's adult volleyball league are now being accepted. League play begins Feb. 22 in the gym at the Camden Lifetime Activities Center. The cost is $235 per team, and the registration deadline is Feb. 19. Pitching Clinic

Former local fast-pitch superstar Whitney Floyd will host lessons and clinics for girls softball pitchers. Floyd starred locally at Lynbrook High School and went on to All-American status at UC-Berkeley. She is now on the coaching staff at Santa Clara University. For more information, call 554-5063.

Pitching Program

West Valley Community College pitching coach Burch Boehner will present a winter pitching program Wednesday evenings, Jan. 27-March 10, in the West Valley gym in Saratoga. Players ages 9-10 attend at 7 p.m., and players ages 11-12 attend at 8 p.m.

Preseason arm conditioning, pitching fundamentals, arm care and defensive skills will be covered in the program.
