Saratoga NewsVillage BriefsVilla Montalvo announces new concert season Villa Montalvo has lined up the winter/spring portion of its 1999 Performing Arts Series, which takes place in the Villa's renovated 300-seat Carriage House Theater. The programs offer an array of musical genres for all tastes, including jazz, pop, classical, Celtic, zydeco and world music. Children's programming is also scheduled. Tickets for the series, which runs through May, are now on sale. Information on the remainder of the 1999 season will be available after March 10. A nonprofit organization, Montalvo uses ticket proceeds to benefit its artist residency programs, community outreach activities and other events. Foothill Club hosts gardening speaker For the third of its 1998-99 Public Lecture Series, the Saratoga Foothill Club welcomes Judith Lowery on Jan. 26 at 10 a.m. for a presentation on gardening. Lowery, who owns and operates the Larner Native Seed Company in Salinas, speaks about her backyard restoration and her new book, Gardening With a Wild Heart. She will illustrate her talk with a variety of slides. The program takes place at the Saratoga Foothill Club clubhouse, 20399 Park Place. A donation of $6 is appreciated. Gallery Saratoga holds red dot sale Throughout the month of January, Gallery Saratoga offers a "red dot sale" on selected pieces of artwork from its more than 22 artist members. The red-dot items, which are on sale for 10 percent to 50 percent off the original prices, include paintings in oil, watercolor, acrylic and pastels; photography; sculpture in a variety of mediums; ceramics; wood-turned vessels; and other hand-made works of art. Gallery Saratoga, whose members hail from Saratoga, Los Gatos, Cupertino, San Jose, Soquel and other nearby communities, is at 14531 Big Basin Way, Unit 3.
