AAUW hosts local authors at luncheonThree authors will present their recent works at a Jan. 29 luncheon to benefit the Educational Foundation of the Los Gatos-Saratoga branch of the American Association of University Women. The lunch-eon, which runs from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., takes place at the Saratoga Country Club, located at 21990 Prospect Road. The authors, Dr. Audrey L. Lynch, Nona Mock Wyman and Joseph D. McNamara all have local connections. Lynch, who wrote With Steinbeck in the Sea of Cortez, is a Saratoga resident and AAUW member. She has taught classes on Steinbeck at community colleges, was also a counselor in the Oak Grove School District and is a freelance writer published in many newspapers. Wyman's recent autobiographical book, Chopstick Childhood in a Town of Silver Spoons, tells of her childhood growing up as an orphan in the old Ming Quong Home in Los Gatos. She also details the history of the orphanage in words and old photographs. Wyman now lives in Walnut Creek, where she owns and runs her own boutique called Ming Quong. McNamara was San Jose's chief of police for 15 years and is now a research fellow at the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace at Stanford University. Along with many published newspaper articles, McNamara has written several books influenced by his knowledge of law enforcement and police technology, including detective fiction such as Fatal Command and Code 211 Blue. Cost for the fundraising luncheon and program is $42; reservations are required. Call 867-1928 for more information.
