GGG discusses noise report

Saratoga's Good Government Group is set to hear an update on the Highway 85 noise situation at its meeting Jan. 27 in the Community Room of the Saratoga Community Library at 7:15 p.m. George Korbay, co-chairman of the Freeway Noise Abatement Committee, will discuss the committee's work, its future program and the technical study done by Acentech, the noise-reduction consulting firm retained by Caltrans to look into the freeway's noise.

The library is located on the corner of Saratoga and Fruitvale avenues.

The League takes a look at choice

The League of Women Voters of Los Gatos, Saratoga and Monte Sereno will discuss choice at a meeting called "Observing 25 years of Roe vs. Wade" on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Rouse Assembly Hall at The Terraces, located at 800 Blossom Hill Road in Los Gatos

Speakers for the event are scheduled to include longtime league member Dale Hill and Barbara Ellis, a Bay Area pro-choice activist. The discussion will touch on such topics as attacks on personal privacy and what voters can do to protect the rights of privacy and choice.

The League was founded as a nonpartisan political organization to encourage informed and active participation in government and to influence public policy through education and advocacy. For more information about the Jan. 28 meeting or about league membership, call 356-4460 or 867-VOTE.

Consultant will lead council retreat talk

The Saratoga City Council will have a facilitator to lead discussions when it meets for its annual retreat on Saturday, March14. Councilmembers agreed Jan. 13 to invite consultant Judy Sweet, who has a background in human relations and organizational management, to their retreat at the suggestion of City Manager Larry Perlin.

Sweet currently is retained by the city to work with staff members on the issue of change in the city's workplace following last year's budget cuts and subsequent reorganization.

Policies and long-term goals are also on the agenda.
