Celebrate Valentine's at Villa Montalvo

Villa Montalvo's Valentine Ball on Friday, Feb. 1, promises to be a romantic event.

Champagne and hors d'oeuvres start the evening at 6:30 p.m, followed by dinner at 8 p.m. and dancing into the night to the music of David Dumont's Li'l Big Band.

The proceeds from $150 tickets will benefit Montalvo's arts programs.

Chairpersons Mary Lou Taylor and Lynda Evjen have planned a silent auction and raffle, with prizes including transportation for two to Paris and trips for two to Maui and New York City.

Dress is black-tie-optional. For reservations, call 741-3421.

Villa Montalvo, Saratoga's historic estate for the arts, is located at 15400 Montalvo Rd.

Lecture series looks at Moses

Riva Berkowitz, an instructor at Congegregation Beth David, will lead her audience through a study of various texts from the Book of Exodus when she speaks as part of Congregation Beth David's Sisterhood Lecture Series at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30.

Berkowitz will look at the prophet Moses in various leadership roles.

She received a master's degree in Jewish education from the Jewish Theological Seminary and has taught students for the past 20 years in a variety of settings, from camps to schools.

The meeting will be held in the synagogue, 19700 Prospect Rd. It's free and open to the public.

Pen Women stage Celebrity Luncheon

The National League of American Pen Women, Santa Clara County Branch, holds an annual Celebrity Luncheon on Saturday, Feb. 8, at Villa Felice, 15350 Winchester Blvd. Local achievers will be honored with a reception at 11 a.m. and a luncheon at noon. Entertainment includes "An Afternoon Visit With Toulouse-Lautrec," by impressionist Ken Young.
