Daffodil Days spark creativity
Bennett Lopez (right) shares his painted vase with Anu Singh in Sharri Makoff's first-grade class at Argonaut School. His vase and others like it will later be filled with freshly cut daffodils as part of Daffodil Days, the American Cancer Society's annual fundraiser, in which donors purchase various sizes of daffodil arrangements for themselves, friends and family members, or as Gifts of Hope. The students' vases will become Gifts of Hope, which ACS volunteers deliver to medical centers and cancer treatment centers for free distribution to patients. Volunteers will be taking orders for Daffodil Days bouquets from Jan. 28 to March 4. More volunteers are always welcome for taking orders and delivering flowers. For more information, call 408.879.1032, press 3 and ask for extension 250.
Side By Side to play at luncheon
Side By Side, a group of six local musicians, will perform as part of the annual Celebrity Lunch on Feb. 9, sponsored by the Santa Clara County branch of the National League of American Pen Women. Side By Side's members are (back row from left) Sarah Joelson of Saratoga, Rosalie Sogolow of Saratoga, Barbara Okun of San Jose, Maureen Schneider of Saratoga, (front row from left) Dahlia Blech of Los Altos and Kathy Sherman of Los Altos Hills. Some members sing; others accompany them on keyboard, flute, guitar and percussion. The Pen Women's luncheon, which takes place at 444 Alma Ave. in San Jose, is a fundraiser for scholarships the local chapter gives to Santa Clara County students.
