Annual Celtic extravaganza comes to town
The 15th annual Celtic Concert, which offers a yearly performance by award-winning dancers, musicians and other performers, takes place Feb. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Los Gatos High School's Prentiss Brown Auditorium, 20 High School Court.
Among the featured entertainers are MacTarnahan's Prince Charles Pipe Band, the Prince Charles Caledonian Club Junior Pipe Band, the Prince Charles Highland Dance Team, Deeley/Smith Irish Dancers and Molly's Revenge, a Celtic band whose tunes are played on the tinwhistle, guitar, mandolin, flute, smallpipes and Highland bagpipes.

Players sought for mah jongg tourney
Congregation Beth David, at 19700 Prospect Road in Saratoga, seeks enthusiastic mah jongg players to participate in its third annual mah jongg tournament, scheduled for Feb. 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mah jongg is a parlor game of Chinese origin played with tiles inscribed with various suits and symbols.
The tournament is described as a "friendly" one, and is sponsored by the South Bay Mah Jongg Mavens. Space is limited to the first 200 registrants. The fee is $25, which includes a welcoming coffee, tournament play and lunch. The deadline to sign up is Feb. 1.

Outdoorsman to tell of hiking the California desert
As part of its ongoing series of community lectures and programs, REI Saratoga has invited Steve Tabor to give a slide presentation on Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. A member of the conversation organization Desert Survivors, Tabor will show and tell about his trips along more than 400 miles of the California Desert Trail, which spans 656 miles from the Mexican border to the state of Nevada. He'll also offer tips on day hiking, backpacking, desert wildflower blooms and trail safety.
