Junior League seeks volunteer nominees
The Junior League of San Jose Inc. is currently accepting nominations for outstanding volunteers to be honored at its 27th annual volunteer recognition in April.
All nominees will receive a certificate, and approximately 25 will be selected to receive Silver Bowl Awards. One volunteer will be honored with the Alexis Award. Feb. 2 is the deadline for nominations.

Theater group appoints Maddox to new position
The Peninsula Civic Light Opera has appointed Stephen D. Maddox as its new development director.
Maddox has been associated with the Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine for more than 10 years, serving as its development director for the past 3 1/2 years. He also serves on the Saratoga Drama Group's board of directors.
Maddox said, "Although my fundraising experience has been with an important research center, the skills are transferable to Peninsula Civic Light Opera. I am eager to begin my association with Peninsula Civic Light Opera and take on the task of finding those ever-elusive funds so needed to aid in carrying on its mission."
Maddox began his new job Jan. 22.
Ægis Gallery shows Howard photographs
'Photographic Impressions" by photographer John Howard will be on display at the Ægis Gallery of Fine Art from Jan. 31 to Feb. 25. The public is invited to a reception for the artist on Feb. 8 from 5 to 9 p.m.
Howard will display images in both color and black and white, including photos he has created using a special technique to make them look like the impressionist paintings of the 1870s.
The Ægis Gallery, located at 14531 Big Basin Way, No. 2, is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Miss Santa Clara County applications due Feb. 13
Applications are now being accepted for 1996 Miss Santa Clara County and Ambassador of Santa Clara County to serve as the official hostess and host of the 1996 Santa Clara County Fair.
The annual competition is an official preliminary to the California State Youth Accolades Scholarship Competition at which the official host and hostess of the California State Fair are chosen. A total of $5,000 in scholarships will be awarded in the local competition, with the winners each receiving $1,000 and the remainder split among their alternates.
Applicants must be Santa Clara County residents between the ages of 16 and 23 and at least a junior in high school. They need to be available for the state competition July 8-14 and the county fair July 24-Aug. 4. They will be judged in several categories, including academic achievement, and community service and participation in interviews, public speaking and performance competitions.

Junior League hosts new member meetings
Women under 45 years of age who are interested in joining the Junior League of San Jose are invited to prospective member orientation meetings on Feb. 22, 28 and March 4.
