Joe Judge elected water board chair
The Santa Clara Valley Water District board of directors has elected Joe Judge chairman and Sig Sanchez vice chairman for 1996.
A member-at-large appointed by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, Judge, 50, has served on the board since 1986. He is a general contractor and also serves as associate director of economic development at Economic and Social Opportunities Inc.
Sanchez, 75, is serving his fourth term on the board, also as a member-at-large. His experience in public service includes 16 years as a Santa Clara County supervisor and five years as mayor of Gilroy.
At the Dec. 31 board meeting, Patrick T. Ferraro, who represented the central San Jose district for 23 years, resigned to become executive director of the Silicon Valley Pollution Prevention Center.
Red Cross needs emergency funds
Due to an unusually high number of residential fires in December, the Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross needs financial contributions for its disaster relief fund.
The Red Cross responded to eight fires last month, helping 11 families and 20 children with food, clothing and shelter. Red Cross assistance is given free, supported by voluntary contributions of time and money.
To help, make checks payable to the Santa Clara Valley Chapter Disaster Relief Fund and send them to 2731 N. First St., San Jose, 95134, or call 577-2114 to charge contributions to a Visa or MasterCard.
