SEF calls for donations

If your telephone rings on Feb. 4, it may be a representative of the Saratoga Education Foundation.

On that day, the organization is holding its annual phone-a-thon, during which SEF members and Saratoga Union School District administrators, teachers and parent volunteers will call local citizens to ask for financial support.

The phone-a-thon is the second leg of the 1995-96 fundraising drive, which began with letters in December requesting donations. An SEF endowment fund has also been established to provide long-term financial support. SEF aims to raise $350,000 this year.

Last year's drive raised $260,000, which was used to fund science instruction, playground equipment, library staff wages, music and art programs, and a technology lab and specialist.

SEF contributions supplement government funding of the schools. "To preserve the quality of our children's educations, we must provide financial support on the local community level," said Cyndy Riordan, SEF president. "SEF is committed to educational excellence and a school environment of challenge and opportunity."
