Hot Stove Banquet
Area baseball products Ken Caminiti and Mark Langston will be among those honored at the 12th annual Hot Stove Banquet set for Feb. 5 at Lou's Village in San Jose.
Caminiti, the star third baseman for the San Diego Padres, is the Hot Stove player of the year. He starred locally at Leigh High School, San Jose City College and San Jose State University before turning pro with the Houston Astros.
Langston was a local star at Buchser High School and San Jose State, and is the Hot Stove pitcher of the year after a solid season with the California Angels.
Others to be honored include Kyle Peterson of Stanford, college player of the year; John Schmitz of the College of San Mateo, community college player of the year; Mike Zirelli of St. Francis, high school player of the year; Ed Giovanola of the Richmond Braves, minor league player of the year; Dick Hager of the Houston Astros, scout of the year; and Frank Volpi, who will receive the service award. Brian Carmody, a former Mitty star, is the winner of the Loyd Christopher Award.
John Shrader will serve as the master of ceremonies for the event, which begins with no-host cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. The cost is $33 per person. For reservations or more information, call 864-8746 or 741-1111, ext. 144.
Softball tryouts
The Los Gatos-Saratoga Girls' Softball Association will hold tryouts for the 1996 season on Feb. 3 and 19 at Foothill School in Saratoga.
Tryouts will run 9 a.m.-noon for girls ages 11-12, and noon-3 p.m. for girls ages 13-14. All girls ages 11-14 must try out.

Quito Little League
The Quito Little League will hold signups for the 1996 season on Jan. 23 and 25, 6-9 p.m. each evening, at the Rolling Hills Middle School gym. The league is open to players ages 5-15 living in the west San Jose, Campbell, Los Gatos and Saratoga areas.
The league is also looking for volunteer managers and coaches.
