Students from as far away as Mexico and Rhode Island gathered at Saint Andrew's School on Dec. 29 for the second annual holiday alumni gathering.
Former students came from high schools all around the Bay Area and universities across the nation.
The event is a popular one, said Linda Sherburn, alumni representative on the school's Parent Association Board, because once Saint Andrew's students graduate, they often end up at many different schools. "Sometimes these kids get so busy with school and sports teams once they enter high school, that it's harder for them to get together with their pals from Saint Andrew's. And they love coming back to the school that many of them attended since the age of 3 or 4," Sherburn said.
Refreshments, picture-taking and volleyball games were the main events at the reunion.
Among the volleyball players was Mary McMains, class of 1991, who is now a freshman at Brown University and a member of the varsity volleyball team there. "I can definitely attribute my strength in volleyball to coaching from Mr. [Roger] Adams. He's the best," she said.
Another alumnus was Josh Garnier, class of 1994, now a student at Los Gatos High School. He came despite having a touch of the flu. "I just didn't want to miss it. It was fun being back on campus. I felt so at home. It's hard to believe I've been gone for a year and a half," he said.
Meghan Clair, a 1995 graduate, now attends Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose. She plays on both the basketball and volleyball teams at Mitty and enjoyed the volleyball games at the reunion.
"I think having a sporting event, whether it's basketball or volleyball, really gets everyone together and makes it fun. I'd go to another alumni event for sure. It was fun," Clair said.
Saint Andrew's, located on Saratoga Avenue just south of Fruitvale Avenue, is a coed Episcopal Day school with 450 students in preschool through eighth grade.
