The Falcons are flying high. And the Saratoga boys basketball team flew to two more victories last week in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.

The Falcons, led by talented senior guard Micah Weger, rolled to wins over Monta Vista 73-45 and Cupertino 71-47 to push their record to 5-0 in the division and to 18-1 for the year.

Saratoga will wrap up the first round of the league season on Jan. 25 when the Falcons host Lynbrook at 7 p.m. The Vikings also come in at 5-0 in division play.

Weger, last year's co-most valuable player in the El Camino circuit, buried 43 points in two games to lead the Falcons to back-to-back wins last week.

Weger pitched in 22 points in the Falcons' 24-point win over Cupertino. The 5-foot-10 guard drilled a pair of three-pointers among his six field goals and added eight points at the free-throw line.

A.J. Peper and Mike Crosby joined Weger in double digits against the Pioneers with 13 points apiece. Crosby also hit a three.

Jesse Alejandro chipped in with six points, Scott Snider hit five, and Todd Anderson, Alexi Sevastapoulos and Alan Tsai had four each.

The Falcons took command of the game early, outscoring Cupertino 19-6 in the first period. The Pioneers cut Saratoga's lead by five in the second quarter, but still trailed 31-23 at intermssion. Then 'Toga put the game away by topping 'Tino 24-11 in the third.

Saratoga was equally impressive earlier in the week against Monta Vista. The Falcons outscored the Matadors in every period, including a 20-8 cushion in the second quarter, on the road to the 73-45 victory.

Weger led the Falcons with 21 points, including a three. Peper canned five buckets to finish with 10 points in the win.

Crosby and Bill Wallace jammed seven points apiece to contribute in the balanced Saratoga scoring attack. Crosby also bombed a three.

Daniel Ruby hit six points, Snider five, Tsai, Sevastapoulos and Alejandro four each and Anderson three.

    Vikings win

Lynbrook appears to be just as hot as Saratoga in the El Camino race. The Vikings edged Fremont 39-35 last Friday night to improve to 5-0 in division play.

Brandon Davis tossed in 14 points to lead the Vikes past the Firebirds. Four of Davis' five field goals were from three-point range.

B.K. Robertson joined Davis in twin figures with 11 points. Ryan Fujihara hit seven points, Jeff Chan three and Ray Supan and Scott Stevens two each.

    Westmont wins two

Westmont came through a big week with two wins to claim a share of first place in the West Valley Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

The Warriors knocked off unbeaten Yerba Buena 62-61, then whipped San Jose Academy 66-51 to improve to 4-1 in the division. Westmont is now locked in a first-place tie with YB and Leland.

Big 6-foot-4 junior center Caleb Pitts pumped in 29 points to lead the Warriors to the big win over Yerba Buena. Pitts nailed a couple of three-point buckets in the win.

Daniel Sherburne supported with 17 points, Erik Cisler had 10, and Vincent Chung hit six.

Pitts came back with 28 points in the 14-point win over San Jose. Sherburne added 15 points, Cisler hit 13, Clay Tolbert added five, Chung had three and Todd Bethke two. Cisler, Tolbert and Chung each hit three-pointers.
