Saratoga NewsNews BriefsNew meeting set for tree strategy Former school board member Jill Hunter and the group to save the eucalyptus trees of Saratoga School will hold another meeting Feb. 4 to respond to the draft environmental impact report published last week, which states no harm will be done by removing the trees. Hunter quit the school board after it decided to remove the trees to build a new field at the school. The meeting will be held in Saratoga School's cafeteria, at 14592 Oak St. at 7pm. Responses to the report should be written and addressed to Superintendent Mary Gardner, SUSD, 20460 Forrest Hills Drive, Saratoga, CA 95070. Copies of the draft EIR are available for public review at SUSD district office, located at 20460 Forrest Hills Drive, Saratoga City Hall, the Saratoga Community Library, Mail Boxes Etc. in Saratoga Village and at Saratoga School. Commission seats still open in city Saratoga's City Council debated at its meeting on Jan. 20 about what to do with the commission seats that are still open on the city's finance and library commissions. The council had already extended the deadlines for applications to Jan. 15 at 5 p.m. That day, one person filed an application right at the deadline for a seat on the library commission. Now the city finally has two applications for the two open seats for that commission, but it has only one application for the two open seats on the finance commission. Other applicants have been waiting for months to find out whether or not they'll be selected as commissioners. One applicant was interviewed by the previous council last May, and continues to wait for word on selection. "It's extremely bad policy to keep them waiting," Councilmember Evan Baker said. The rest of the council agreed with Baker, and said they'd interview the three applicants Feb. 3. If the council approves the applicants during interviews, it can make a decision and name those applicants to their respective commissions. The council also left open the filing deadline for the remaining finance commission seat. Those interested in a seat on the finance commission can get more information by calling Saratoga City Hall at 868-1200.
