Rainy days and soggy turf made it tough to play much soccer last week, but it wasn't wet enough to keep the Saratoga boys' soccer team from picking up a win in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.
A first-half goal by Scott Avondet off a Jordan Jones assist was all Saratoga needed to pull out the clutch win over the Titans.
The Falcons improved to 3-1-1 in El Camino Division play with the victory. Saratoga is 7-2-1 for the season.
The Falcons were coming off of a tough 1-0 loss to Wilcox, their only loss of the league season.
Westmont, meanwhile, fought San Jose to a 2-2 tie in a game played in the West Valley Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. The Warriors are now 1-4-1 in the division and 1-10-1 for the year.
In girls' soccer action, Prospect blanked Overfelt 3-0 and Westmont battled Pioneer to a 1-1 draw in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL.
Goals by Lyndsay Spanek, Kristel Munch and Rachel Lauson sparked the Panthers to the win over the Royals. Prospect improved to 4-2-1 in division play with the win.
Westmont's season mark moved to 4-6-4 after the deadlock with the Mustangs. Senior Rita Salgado knocked in a second-half goal to help the Warriors clinch the tie.
