Council honors commissioner
The Saratoga City Council commended Nancy Anderson, an outgoing Heritage Preservation Commissioner, who had served on the commission since 1998.
According to the commendation, Anderson had been especially involved in Heritage Orchard issues.
Get to know government
The League of Women Voters of Los Gatos, Saratoga and Monte Sereno is now offering get-acquainted sessions with local governments. The sessions, which are being offered for the first time, are aimed at familiarizing citizens with how their local governments work.
Members of the public will have an opportunity to meet department heads and tour government facilities to see offices in operation.
The get-acquainted session in Saratoga is scheduled for Feb. 8, at 9:30 a.m. at Saratoga City Hall on Fruitvale Avenue. To register, call 408.867.4987 by Feb. 6. Space is limited.
Water supply unaffected by blackouts
The rolling blackouts that have hit the Santa Clara Valley over past weeks have had no effect on water quality, according to the Santa Clara Valley Water District.
Like hospitals, fire stations and police stations, the district maintains an independent source of power for emergencies. Generators allowed for the continued treatment of drinking water during the last wave of rolling blackouts. Neither supply, nor quality was affected, according to the district.
Saratoga youth commissioner in Washington
Saratoga Youth Commissioner James Atkin attended the National Young Leaders Conference for the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, a nonpartisan and nonprofit education organization, Nov. 28 through Dec. 3 in Washington, D.C. The program is for the chosen high school students to interact with national leaders. The days of the conference consisted of simulations and meeting with members of the U.S Congress or its staff.
