Magic beats Los Gatos

Lindsay Newman, Colleen Sphar and Kelly Bac scored the points to lead the Saratoga Magic to a 12-11 win over Los Gatos in the girls' third-fourth grade, Division 3 of the National Junior Basketball League. Nicola Ullathorne, Marissa Byrne and Brittany Howard were other standouts.

Newman came back with 16 points to spark the Magic to a 26-19 win over another Los Gatos squad a week later. Newman and Sphar led the Magic on the boards and Ullathorne, Byrne, Howard, Sphar, Molly Mckibben, Brittany Garrett and Anita Gupta added points.

In other National Junior Basketball action, Chris Charles had eight points and Matt Wright added four points and five rebounds to lead the Wildcats to a 22-19 win over the Los Gatos Supersonics in the boys' Division 3.

Bryan Loupy supported with five points and Greg Justice starred defensively in the win.

Justice came back with five points and Charles had five rebounds, but the Wildcats dropped a tight 24-20 decision to the Berryessa Heat. Joseph Welch had three points and three rebounds and Jeff Seago, Mark Bertelson and Peter Rutti played well defensively for the Wildcats.

Bryte Nielson pitched in eight points and K.C. Walsh had four points and three assists to lead the Saratoga Streetjammers to a 17-13 win over Santa Clara in the girls' third-fourth grade, division 3.

Natalie Blasquez and Allison Dunn ripped down four rebounds apiece and Nicole Justice had four assists.
