Grand theft--Dec. 31 at 5 p.m. The owner of a 1994 Mercury returned to his unlocked car at the Classic Car Wash on Prospect Road and discovered that a thief had taken a $1,050 diamond ring out of it.
Check Forgery--Jan. 10, time unknown. Managers at Exclusively Yours discovered that someone with information about the company's bank account counterfeited and forged a check, then cashed it in San Francisco.
Attempted auto burglary--Between Jan. 10 at 5:30 p.m. and Jan. 11 at 8:30 a.m. Sheriff's department investigators believe the person who shattered a wing window of a 1986 Ford Bronco II parked on Malcom Avenue intended to burglarize it, but left without taking anything.
Assault--Jan. 11 at 5 p.m. Two people at the Saratoga Gem and Art Brokers on Big Basin Way got into a scuffle after a disagreement. One of them punched her partner numerous times on the arms, thinking he was pushing her out of the store. He said he only wanted to get to the door. The woman wasn't cited.
Auto burglary--Between Jan. 11 at 10:45 p.m. and Jan. 12 at 9:45 a.m. A burglar smashed the right rear wing window of a 1995 Toyota Corolla parked on Saratoga Avenue at the corner of La Paloma Avenue and took a $350 radio.
Annoying telephone calls--Jan. 12 at 9:35 a.m. A caller with nothing to say phoned a Via Ranchero resident, who said she has received the silent calls before. She asked Pacific Bell to try tracing the calls.
Possession of marijuana--Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. The strong odor of burning hemp emanating from a man sitting near the Bank of the West at Quito Village Shopping Center aroused a deputy's suspicion. After searching the man, the officer cited him for possessing five ounces of marijuana.
Residential burglary--Between Jan. 18 and Jan. 22, someone walked into the open garage at a Lynbrook Court house and then walked back out with some of the homeowner's power tools.
