Hearings set on Mountain Winery
The County Planning Commission will decide on permit requirements for the Mountain Winery and finalize the winery's environmental-impact report Feb. 10 and March 2, respectively.
The commission heard comments from the public and from the city of Saratoga, represented by Mayor Stan Bogosian, at a public hearing in December. The county's Architectural and Site Approval Committee, chaired by County Planning Commission Chairman and former Saratoga Mayor Don Peterson or County Planning Commissioner Terry Trumbull, will prepare a list of permit conditions for the winery on Feb. 10 at 9:30 a.m. in room 157 of the County Building, 70 W. Hedding St., in San Jose. Call Gary Rudholm, ASA Secretary, with any questions on the recommendations for the hearing at 408.299.2454.
The ASA Committee will present its recommendations and the winery's final EIR to the commission on March 2 at 1:30 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Chambers in the County Building.
West Valley hosts IRS tax assistance
Trained volunteers representing the Internal Revenue Service will assist taxpayers with basic returns at West Valley College's Educational Transition Office beginning Feb. 9.
The service is free. Volunteers primarily seek to help the elderly, non-English speakers and individuals with disabilities or low or fixed incomes.
The service will be available Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 4 p.m. The Educational Transition Office is in room LS17. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, call 408.741.4030.
Volunteers will hit the streets
After working to place it on the ballot for years, dozens of Saratogans continue to campaign for Measure N. The measure, which calls for the renovation and expansion of the Saratoga Community Library, will appear on the March 7 ballot. Campaign workers have already contacted 2,500 voters.
"Volunteers have filled the phone banks every day since we began phoning in early January," said Mary Jeanne Fenn, campaign co-manager. Volunteers also plan to hit the streets, going door to door, this week.
A Candidate forum is planned for 15th District
Candidates for the 15th Congressional District seat on Feb. 4 will debate the issues at a forum held by the Commonwealth Club of California. The seat is being vacated by Tom Campbell, who is running for the U.S. Senate.
At least a half dozen candidates will share their politics with the public and participate in a question-and-answer session. Dr. Gloria C. Duffy, chief executive officer of the Commonwealth of California, will moderate.
The debate will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. in Building Q at the Campbell Community Center. Call 408.271.1262 for more information.
