Robert Trentham will bring Civil War to life in concert

    By Shari Kaplan

For the third concert of the 1999-2000 performance season, the Los Gatos-Saratoga Community Concert Association presents Robert Trentham and his original Civil War program, In Thinking of America, on Feb. 20 at 2:30 p.m. in Los Gatos High School's Prentiss Brown Auditorium.

A native of Southern California, Trentham can count 30 ancestors who served as soldiers in the Civil War--some with the Union, some with the Confederacy. In conducting extensive research, he learned not only about his own family tree, but also gained an interest for and insight into the lives of all people alive during the conflict, including slaves, soldiers, women and the general public.

He created In Thinking of America to bring the Civil War period to life using songs, music, stories and costumes. Accompanied by a pianist, he has performed for the annual Gettysburg Civil War Heritage Days as well as with theater and opera companies throughout the United States. Selections from his CD, Epitaph, can be heard on the Civil War Trust's multimedia exhibit The Explorer, which is found in many national and state parks.

Season tickets for the nonprofit LGSCCA's concert season are $40 for adults, $35 for senior citizens, $10 for students and $85 for the family plan, which admits two adults and any number of children and students under 18. Individually priced concert tickets are available at the door. The auditorium is located at 20 High School Court.
