AAUW fundraiser celebrates the Chinese New Year
The Los Gatos-Saratoga branch of the American Association of University Women celebrates the Year of the Dragon in its annual Chinese New Year dinner fundraiser on Feb. 10.
A social hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m at Hong's Gourmet Restaurant, 14510 Big Basin Way. The program's featured speaker is Rose Marie Twu, co-chair of the Chinese Historical/Cultural Project in Santa Clara County.
Cost is $30 per person. The event benefits women continuing their education at West Valley College in math- or science-related fields. For reservations, call 408.867.2602.
Local vineyard hosts dinner for wine connoisseurs
Savannah-Chanel Vineyards, located at 23600 Congress Springs Road in the Saratoga hills, invites the community to attend its Winemaker's Dinner on Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m. The vineyards' own winemaker, Michael McNeill, and Viaggio restaurant's executive chef, A.J. Szenda, have joined forces to create a five-course dinner in which the food is complemented by current and new releases from the Savannah-Chanel cellars. Cost is $69.95 per person. Hakone Gardens plans a fountain- making workshop
As part of the various art classes it offers to the community, Saratoga's Hakone Gardens on Feb. 19 has scheduled a three-hour workshop on fountain-making taught by Bay Area artist Carla Brooke.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Brooke will instruct participants on designing their own fountains using materials such as polish rocks, slate and plants. She will also cover how to regulate water flow and assemble submersible pumps. Participants should bring a small, water-tight bowl or container at least four inches deep.
