Affordable unit at Hakone is dedicated

The Rev. Haruko Ishiwata, a Shinto priest affiliated with Konko Church in San Jose, blesses a recently renovated cottage on the grounds of Hakone Gardens during dedication ceremonies Jan. 20. The former caretaker's cottage was spruced up, thanks to funds from the federally funded Community Development Block Grants and will be rented as affordable housing. Hakone Foundation will serve as the landlord. To qualify for the two-bedroom, one-bath cottage, a couple must have an income of less than $36,800, the county's designation of "low income."
