Saratoga NewsObituariesNancy Barnes Nancy J. Barnes of Saratoga died on Dec. 19 following a long battle with cancer. She was 53. Born Feb. 12, 1944, in St. Paul, Minn., Barnes was co-founder of Emery Worldwide Airlines, also known as Air Train Inc. She also co-founded Patriot Airlines, an air-cargo carrier. Barnes first gained airline experience with Western Airlines in St. Paul in 1967. She was active in environmental issues and was known for her concern for all mankind. Survivors include husband Andrew A. Barnes of Saratoga; son Michael Barnes of Saratoga; daughter Lauryn Barnes of Saratoga; sister Susanne Anglo; brothers Edward, Thomas and Robert Anglo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services have been held. Juliette Forbes Saratoga resident Juliette Buckalew Forbes died on Dec. 21 at the age of 88. Born Jan. 9, 1909, in LaFayette, Ala., Forbes was preceded in death by husband James Mallory Forbes and son James Mallory Forbes Jr. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Edwin and Douglass Forbes of Saratoga; grandchildren Katherine Anne Forbes and James Mallory Forbes II; brothers M. Roby Buckalew Jr. of Florida, M. Walker Buckalew of Delaware and J. Edwin Buckalew of Alaska; and sister Frances Henry of Georgia. Memorial services have been held, with interment at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Ala. Dorothy Jean Mitchell Saratogan Dorothy Jean Mitchell died on Dec. 24 at the age of 79. Mitchell was born Aug. 2, 1918, in Greeley, Colo. She was an active member of the Saratoga Presbyterian Church as well as a volunteer with the Saratoga Library and Hakone Gardens. She was also an avid golfer. She was predeceased by husband M. Leonard Mitchell. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Judith and Frank Marshall of Saratoga and son and daughter-in-law Mark and Wendy Mitchell of Boise, Idaho; grandsons Scott, Matthew, Timothy and Mark and great-granddaughter Tiffani. Memorial services have been held. Donations may be made to the Saratoga Presbyterian Church. Diane Irion Diane Allen Irion of Saratoga died on Jan. 5 in Los Gatos at the age of 67. Born Feb. 10, 1930, in Portland, Ore., she attended the Anna Head School in Berkeley and later graduated from UC-Berkeley in 1952 with a degree in liberal arts. In 1954, she married Richard Fales Irion, who was a vice president and manager of Bank of the West branches in Los Gatos, Sunnyvale and San Jose. She was active in the Montalvo Service Group, Foothill Women's Club, Pi Beta Phi and Panhellenic. Irion was known for her love of gardens, flowers, birds, dogs and beauty and nature in general. She also enjoyed organizing gatherings of family and friends and helping anyone who needed her. Together with her small stature, these attributes earned her the nicknames "the original mighty mouse" and "super chick." Survivors include husband Richard Irion of Saratoga; daughters Susan Nonnenberg of Rocklin and Sherrill Kuc of Ellicott City, Md.; and two grandchildren. Memorial services have been held. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Diane Irion Memorial Garden, in care of the Los Gatos Rotary Club, P.O. Box 1018, Los Gatos, 95031.
