Saratoga NewsVolunteers are needed for Senior GamesThe third annual Silicon Valley Classic--San Jose Senior Games is gearing up for July, when athletes age 50 and older will come together to compete in sports ranging from archery to the triathlon. Sponsored by the city of San Jose's Office on Aging, a branch of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services, the event generally attracts more than 700 senior athletes from throughout California to compete in a variety of sporting events. Winners in age and gender categories may go on to compete at the state and national levels. Potential athletes, volunteers or sports coordinators are invited to contact Gina Aning, games coordinator, at 559-8553 for information on how to get involved. Right now, the office is particularly looking for those interested in assisting with the planning of archery, badminton, a racewalk, racquetball, volleyball, 5k and 10k road races and a triathlon.
